Phil Villescas hosts Afternoon Drive from 2-7 p.m. on 101 Gold AND Cruzin’ in Cruces, every Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. He’s excited take your requests and special dedications. Phil has enjoyed music all his life and if you have a special request and aren’t sure who the artist is, chances are he’ll find your song and enjoy hearing it as much as you do.

Phil was born in Mountainair, New Mexico and moved to Las Cruces as a young child. He grew up here in the Mesilla Valley, enjoying the chile and music unique to this area. Phil’s parents always enjoyed music and dancing so music has always been a big part of his life. Growing up he listened to Steve Crosno and other local DJ’s. While a student at Las Cruces High School, he and some friends formed a garage band called “Street”, which eventually became a local favorite. Later, while serving in the Navy overseas aboard the USS Kansas City, Phil was the DJ on board. He was known as the Cisco Kid and his format was Oldies.

Following military service, Phil returned to Las Cruces to attend NMSU, financing his education by working as a club disc jockey at The Rain Forest. It was the disco era and Phil was sometimes jokingly called Phil Revolta. Seriously though, Phil was quite a disco dancer and won many dance contests over the years. After college, he relocated to Santa Fe to open the night club at the Sheraton of Santa Fe. While living in Santa Fe, Phil missed Las Cruces and his family and decided to move back and start his own mobile disc jockey service. In 1988 Mobi Disc was formed and today Phil and his partner and former college roommate, Chris Cruz, continue to provide musical entertainment to folks in the Mesilla Valley and surrounding area.

Shortly after moving back to Las Cruces in 1988, Phil was asked to audition for a local radio station and that audition began an 11 year run as a radio personality in Las Cruces as well as Operations Manager for two radio stations. In 2000, he left the radio business to pursue a career related to his college education. He worked as a Technician at the White Sands Test Facility for a NASA contractor.

Phil and his wife, Barb, live in Las Cruces with daughter, Chantal, a combat medic with the New Mexico National Guard and a senior at NMSU. In his spare time, Phil enjoys fishing, camping, movies and always, music.

So, check out Phil on Cruisin’ in Cruces on Sunday afternoon. He’d love to take your call or e-mail
