Today’s 101 #1 Song of the Day was the result of the combination of Dreamgirls star Jennifer Holliday, The Gospel Music Workshop of America, the Thomson Twins, and of course the group that took it to the top spot. The names we’ve already mentioned were all backup singers and the song’s writer (or, one of them anyway – that’s another story) said during the session they had done several takes and it still sounded “tentative” so he said they all stood in a circle, held hands and recited the Lord’s Prayer and he said it worked because the very next take left him in tears. He’s the one that gets credit for writing but 5% (according to him) and 40% according to his bandmate should have gone to someone else…that would be singer Lou Gramm. Guitarist Mick Jones is the writer to whom we referred. And the song would be their group Foreigner’s only chart topper “I Wanna Know What Love is” was number one on this day (and for two weeks) in 1985.
