The 101 # 1 song of the day was recorded by one Richard Lewis Springthorpe whose first and only number one song ruled the charts at the very start of the 80s most important musical revolution. It was America’s number one song the very day when MTV made its debut. Coincidently, his face was already familiar to millions of Americans because of his role as Dr. Noah Drake on the very popular soap opera, “General Hospital.” But he was a musician first in his native Australia where he belonged to a number of bands before moving to the states. He only took some acting lessons to expand his potential for employment when he got here. And on August 5, 1982 he was riding high on TV, on MTV and on the radio with the number one in the USA. By this time Richard Lewis Springthorpe had modified his name to Rick Springfield – his song “Jessie’s Girl.”
