The 101 Number One Song of the Day was the title song to a comedy movie in which the writer tried to fit the music to what was happening on screen. It went on to be such a big hit he was able to clean up in more ways than one.
The single starts out with just percussion with handclaps and drums. Then comes the bass guitar, just as an object is pulleyed vertically in front of the movie viewers. The single entered the Hot 100 in October 1976 and arrived at number one on January 29th, 1977 for a group originally gathered together to perform backup for the Temptations.
