The 101 number one song of the day was written and performed by the same guy who wrote “Sugar, Sugar” for the Archies (but afterwards, he fell on hard times until several years later when he achieved
his biggest success with today’s featured single.
Andrew Joachim was born to Lebanese parents who emigrated to North America in the early 1900’s. But after some initial writing and recording success his chart career turned as cold as a Canadian winter where he grew up. He decided to form his own label calling it Ice records. He financed the recording session for the song you’re about to hear himself. He could only afford to cut two sides and because he considered the song to be so good, he included an instrumental version of it on the flip side. It took 14 long weeks to get to the top but during this week in 1974 it finally got there. By this time he had started using a shortened version of his birth name and here he is with today’s 101 number one song of the day – Andy Kim (Rock Me Gently)
