The 101 number one song of the day was the biggest hit recorded by a band that came to national prominence after they were signed to be regulars on Dick Clark’s daily afternoon music show. And no – it wasn’t American Bandstand.
The series debuted in the summer of ‘65 and the group went on to have nine top 20 hits before the decade was over. Although they were primarily known as a sixties band, their biggest hit came in the seventies. It was also their last top 20 hit. It reached the top of the charts on July 24, 1971 for the group once known as Paul Revere and the Raiders but now shortened to “The Raiders” and the song: Indian Reservation.
