Listen for the replay and win!
The 101 number one song of the day created a dividing line between all that came before and all that followed and it was recorded by a man once known as the “singing yodeler.”
That was his first job for a band called the Downhomers. He soon moved on and formed his own band which went by the name of the Saddlemen which formed the core of the group for which he’d be most famous. Today’s 101 number one song of the day was recorded and released before several other songs which actually became hits but this one failed to catch on – at first. But later it was included under the opening credits for a movie starring Glenn Ford as a high school teacher confronted by violent students. The movie was “Blackboard Jungle.” This time, the song took off and rocketed to the top of the charts. It arrived on July 9th, 1955. The man responsible never achieved the superstardom of Elvis who was the known as the King of Rock and Roll, but to many, he was known as the “Father of Rock and Roll.” Today’s 101 number one song of the day is the first #1 rock ‘n’ roll song. It’s by Bill Haley and the Comets: Rock Around the Clock
