When the 101 number one song of the day got to the top, the group became the first artists of the rock era to have their first three chart releases reach number one.
The song listed its writing and production credits as “The Corporation” rather than give the actual people individual credit. That was most likely due to the bitterness involved in the recent split with superstar writers and producers Holland Dozier Holland. Berry Gordy, Jr. didn’t want anybody getting too big for their britches although the diminutive lead singer in question here today was getting bigger by the hit. The number one song on this day – June 28, 1970 belonged to the Jackson Five – “The Love You Save”
