The 101 number one song of the day was the first Lennon-McCartney song NOT recorded by the Beatles to top the charts in America.
It was one of Paul’s songs but the four Lads from Liverpool agreed it wasn’t quite right for them so it was offered to Billy J. Kramer who decided to pass. Another friend of Paul’s had just been signed to a recording contract a part of a duo and they needed material. They decided to give this one a try and the result was that on June 27th, 1964 it rose to number one in America for Peter and Gordon (A World Without Love)
