Since news of James Gandolfini’s death broke late Wednesday afternoon (June 19th,) there has been an outpouring of love and fond memories from fans and colleagues. As more people weigh in on the tragic news, more details surrounding the actor’s final moments have also started to come in.
According to NBC News, James’ 13-year-old son Michael called for help after finding his father alive but struggling on the floor of the bathroom in their hotel room after suffering an apparent heart attack. Hotel employees reportedly attempted to resuscitate the 51-year-old who was still alive when the ambulance delivered him to Policlinico Umberto I hospital — located about three minutes from the hotel.
James was working on several projects before he passed:
- Enough Said, about a recently divorced woman who falls for her friend’s ex-husband co-starring Julia Louis-Dreyfus.
- Bone Wars, about a pair of real-life paleontologists after the Civil War who discovered the fossils of more than 160 dinosaurs co-starring Steve Carell.
- Criminal Justice, a seven-part limited series event for HBO about an ambulance-chasing attorney in New York. Only the pilot episode has been shot so far.
