Listen for the 101 # 1 song of the day replay sometime between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. to win two tickets to the Second Chance Prom.
Your 101 Number One Song of the Day comes from a group which at one time contained such well known names as Glen Campbell as well as Jim Seals and Dash Crofts. But those guys came AFTER this group’s biggest hit.
The original group formed more by happenstance than design. While recording instrumental tracks for another group as session musicians, there was some session time left over and they decided to record something of their own called “Train to Nowhere” For the flipside, they recorded something one of guys had written while visiting Tijuana. When the single was released, the “A” side lived up to its title – and went nowhere but the “B” side started to catch on and to the surprise of everyone, on March 21, 1958 it landed at number one – for the Champs – “Tequila”
—the group named themselves after Gene Autry’s horse “Champion”
