Listen Live

Listen for the replay to win two tickets to the Second Chance prom this Saturday Night at the Convention Center.

The 101 Number One Song of the Day comes from a woman who charted with covers of songs by the Jackson Five and the Four Tops but was most vocally inspired by doo wop pioneer Frankie Lyman.

In 1975 she was crowned “Queen of the Discos” but one year later she was supplanted by Donna Summer in that role.  Shortly thereafter her career ground to a halt and she was beset by several personal setbacks.  But then she recorded a single called “Substitute” but it was the other side that radio stations seemed to prefer and so it was the “B” side that was being played on the air and rose to the top of Billboard Magazine’s Top 100.  That’s where it was on March 14th, 1979 and it became an anthem of defiance and freedom for Gloria Gaynor.  And this is it, “I Will Survive”
