The 101 number one song of the day was allegedly named for a famous groupie and it was supposed to be the B side of the single but some thought the A side was too dirty. You’re probably familiar with both sides.
Many radio program directors found it easier to flip the record over because they were uncomfortable with the subject of the song that today’s featured group preferred although the band wasn’t particularly happy with either side. Their front man later referred to the album on which the songs were contained as mostly rubbish. But the fans disagreed and on March 5th, 1967, the single on the flip side of “Let’s Spend the Night Together” was number one in America – The Rolling Stones (with Ruby Tuesday)
