Mindy McCready’s suicide has reignited criticism of Dr. Drew
Pinsky and his methods while treating patients on Celebrity Rehab.
Mindy appeared on the third season of the reality show and is one of five cast
members who have died after being under Dr. Drew’s care.
Singer Richard Marx tweeted that Pinsky has the same results as Dr. Kevorkian, which he later retracted but added, “It is, however, my opinion that what Dr. D does is exploitation and his TV track record is not good.” University of Chicago Psychiatry professor Dr. Sharon Hirsch told Time.com, “One of the key components of any treatment is to talk confidentially with your treatment provider about every aspect of what is going on with you, to be able to get the best care you can. I just don’t know how that could occur in the context of an internationally televised show. And so it would be difficult for me to envision it as a complete treatment program. … It just really strikes me as entertainment and not as treatment.”
- Former Celebrity Rehab cast members Mike Starr, Joey Kovar, Rodney King, and Jeff Conaway all passed following appearances on the VH1 reality show.
