1973: President Nixon’s personal secretary, Rose Mary Woods, told a federal court she had accidentally erased 18 minutes of a key Watergate tape.  Most found the explanation difficult to believe.







2000: Florida Secretary of State Katherine Harris certified Republican George W. Bush the winner over Democrat Al Gore in the state’s presidential balloting. The winning margin: 537 votes.





2001: Queen Elizabeth II was in her Royal Box at her Royal Variety Show in London, enjoying the performances of Donny Osmond, Cher and Elton John.
