NFL star-turned actor Alex Karras died on Wednesday (October 10th) at the age of 77. Karras, who had been suffering from kidney failure, passed away at his Los Angeles home surrounded by his family.
Karras played for the Detroit Lions for 13 seasons, while also working occasionally as a professional wrestler. He first started acting in the 1960s, playing himself in the 1966 film version of George Plimpton’s Paper Lion. He later appeared in films like Blazing Saddles and Victor Victoria. Karras is best known as an actor for his role on Webster, where he played the adoptive father of Emmanuel Lewis’s character from 1983 until 1989. His real-life wife, Susan Clark, also played his fictional wife on the show. He reportedly had been in ill health for several years, having suffered from cancer and dementia.
