1871: The Great Chicago Fire erupted.  According to legend says Mrs. O’Leary’s cow kicked over a lantern. Over 98,000 people were left homeless by the fire.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

1956: Don Larsen pitched the only perfect game in a World Series as the New York Yankees beat the Brooklyn Dodgers, 2-0.  Exactly one year later, Dodger owner Walter O’Malley announced that he had accepted a deal to move the Dodgers to Los Angeles.

 

 

 

 

 

 

1992 The U.S. Postal Service announces a commemorative stamp booklet that included rock legends Bill Haley, Elvis Presley, Ritchie Valens, Buddy Holly and Otis Redding.
