The 101 Number One Song of the day was written and produced by the husband wife team of Ashford & Simpson and it was previously a hit for Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell. But the person who took it all the way to the top was just getting started – all over again.
She was no stranger to success. In fact, she had amassed an incredible 12 number one hits as part of a group. That number was more than anybody but the Beatles and Elvis. But now she was on her own and she was nervous about beginning this new phase of her career. Although she was already famous for her singing voice, her producers were captivated by her speaking voice and so the original version of the song was rearranged to capitalize on her full vocal range. The result reached number one on September 19, 1970 for the now solo Diana Ross (Ain’t No Mountain High Enough)
