The 101 number one song of the day was the fifth time the group topped the charts in America but despite their previous success, they were virtually broke.  So in order to reverse their fortunes they embarked on what would be the most expensive tour of shows to date with tickets ranging from …well read on to find out the outrageous ticket prices.

Ticket prices ranged from $4.50 to $7.50.  The result was scathing criticism-  One columnist wrote,  “Can they really need all that money?”  He went on to declare that it proved that the group despised their audience.  Can an act such as this sustain audience loyalty over the years despite their apparent greed according to others?  Apparently so, because the song that leapt off their latest album and was number one in America on August 24, 1969 belonged to the Rolling Stones – “Honky Tonk Women”
