The 101 Number One Song of the Day was recorded by a trio named after the three men in the group except one of the three men wasn’t even in the group.
Well, they were in the group when they began but by the time today’s featured oldie was recorded, one of the members, Tommy Reynolds left his music career behind and became a minister in Texas. The remaining two replaced him with Alan Dennison who played keyboards, electric flute and the congas. Dennison said he didn’t mind that they weren’t using his name because it was an entity unto itself and besides, several years before today’s song came along they had a top ten hit so, to be consistent, by August 23rd, 1975, when this song got to the top, they continued to go by the name Hamilton, Joe Frank, and Reynolds.
