1775: Britain’s King George III proclaimed the American colonies to be in a state of open rebellion.
On this date in 1851, a silver trophy called the “Hundred Guinea Cup” was won by the US sailing yacht “America” in a race against the British yacht “Aurora” around the Isle of Wight in England — the US brought the trophy home and renamed it the “America’s Cup.”
1968 Cynthia Powell filed for divorce – one day shy of her and her husband’s sixth anniversary. His name was John, John Lennon who was already seeing Yoko Ono.
