The 101 Number One song of the Day was recorded by a trio which evolved from a group called Pleasure Faire and they were going to give it one more shot before going their separate ways.
The frontman grew up in Tulsa in a musical family. His dad was a music teacher and directed the band for the local high school. But his advice to his son was keep music as a hobby and get into something more lucrative like being a lawyer but as is often the case that advice fell on deaf ears. He formed a group of his friends which included Leon Russell who later left town to find his fortune in LA. Leon soon found work as a session player and that gave his pal the courage to head there himself. And soon he too was working backing up the likes Jackie DeShannon, Randy Newman and Johnny Burnett. During that period he began writing songs and soon he was a member of a band that recorded several albums without any commercial success. They changed their name and gave it one more try and that led to an album whose title song arrived at number one on August 22nd, 1970. By this time they were performing under the name – Bread and the LP was called “Make it with You.”
