1835 The first steam locomotive train began its inaugural run, between Albany and Schenectady, in New York.








1936 Jesse Owens became the first American to win four medals in one Olympics. Owens ran one leg of the winning 400-meter relay team in Berlin. His three other gold medals were won in the 100-meter, 200-meter and the long jump events.











1974: Gerald Ford became the first non-elected President of the U.S. after Richard Nixon resigned in the wake of the Watergate Scandal.









1967: At the Sunberry Jazz and Blues Festival in England, This rock and roll rebel revved the crowd into such frenzy that festival officials stopped the show, and asked him to leave the stage. It was Jerry Lee Lewis.
