The group actually wanted to stay anonymous in their native country when they were just starting out. That’s because they couldn’t get any radio play because the airwaves were full of British and American acts and they were Canadian! Chad Allen and the Expressions decided to leave their name off their single “Shakin All Over.” That left disc jockeys to “guess who” the band was. Eventually, legislation was passed that required stations to play a certain percentage of native music. By that time the group had a new name and in 1970 they had the number one song in America.
