Katie Couric had some big news to announce on this day in 2006 on the Today Show

She declared that she would no longer be perky. Just kidding, that would be impossible.

2006: Katie Couric actually announced she was leaving NBC’s “Today” show to become anchor of “The CBS Evening News.”

tomorrow, Katie will wrap up her week as guest host on the ABC morning show.

And in Music History 101: 1983 – Interior Secretary James Watt cancelled a scheduled appearance by this group at the Washington, DC, 4th of July celebration because, he said, “rock and roll bands attract the wrong element” –

Watt’s decision was reversed by Ronald Reagan two days later. Which group was it?

…nice and clean cut. Quintessentially America.

The Beach Boys.
