History 101 for March 8th, 2012

On this date in 1965, more than 3,500 U.S. Marines landed at Da Nang in South Vietnam to become the first U.S. combat troops in Vietnam.

Billed as “The Fight of the Century,” Smokin’ Joe Frazier took the heavyweight crown from undefeated champ Muhammad Ali on this night in 1971.

1970: In Framingham, Massachusetts, this singer performed her first solo concert after leaving The Supremes. It was, of course, Diana Ross.
